Proffesional Practice for Photographic Communication

This assignment is based of re-photography which is the act of repeat photography of the same place. We were put in to groups and given a map if an area on which we will be focusing our Rephotography on. To get started we needed to get the original photos I had to go to the archive for this. The original photographs that we used were in good condition but because we could not scan the photos we had to photograph them, which did not give us very good photos to start with but some of them worked out fine.
After photographing the original photographs I walked to the area that was on the map it was quite difficult but I was not alone so it was helpful. Finding the places where the original photo was taken was not as easy as I thought since places had change over time the one that I could Rephotography were one that were taken in the 1980s. In the end I did some photos taken for this assignment and I did enjoy the afternoon.
I did do some research in to how I would be combining the photos together I could have them side by side but I thought that it would be quite boring so I thought about combining the photos together. One photographer who inspired me the most was Sergey Larenkov who combined the photos together through digital manipulation kind of like the photos are giving you a glimpse of the past which I kind of liked. After looking at larenkovs photos I wanted to do something similar but instead of digitally manipulating I would do it by hand by collagen them together. This is what I originally wanted to do but in the end I layered the original photo over the re-photographed one kind of like it was ghosted over the re-photographed photo I did this because I did not get the right angle on the photos after looking at them together.
The results of the editing were what I hoped they would look like, like a ghost of the past. I then had to get one of the photos printed and mounted so that the photo could be on display in the Salford museum and Gallery. Finding a place to print and mount the photos in a pacific way was quite difficult until a fellow student took control of the situation then it was just a case of paying and collecting the photos.
We also had another part to this assignment, we were given some options an interview which could be with someone in the photographic field, a work experience but for only a day and a brief on doing portraits for Barclays. I originally wanted to do the Barclays brief because I thought it was a rat opportunity but after meeting the people who I would be photography, who did not seem interested in what we were doing. So I changed my option to interview with a photographer, I chose to interview Mik Critchlow who is a social documentary photographer I found him quite interesting so I emailed him about and interview and he emailed me back say that he would like to do it. I got some good advice from Mik Critchlow and am very happy that I was able to interview him.
In conclusion this assignment has had its ups and downs, but in the end I got some great advise from a great photographer and I was also able do some re-photography which I had not doe be for. I also know where to go to get my photos printed and mounted. I did enjoy this assignment I but f I was to do this assignment again I would like it to be in a area that I know better than Salford so that I did not get lost and because if I know the area better I could have gotten a lot more photos.
